FESTIVE FUN AS WARE JOGGERS IN TOP THREE FINISH

Ware Joggers got in the Christmas spirit when they descended on Southend for the latest in the club championship series of races.

The Southend Rudolph Run is a five-mile race that starts and finishes on the seafront, and where festive dress is encouraged. A number of Ware Joggers joined in the festive spirit to take part, which was the latest in the club’s 2025-20 championship league.

Alex Chappell finished in third place overall, in a gun time of 29.37, followed by Tim Brignall, in a time of 31.29, who was seventh home overall and the second Ware Jogger. Neil Bull finished in ninth place in a time of 31.54. Meanwhile, Pamela Wilson was the ninth woman home overall and the first Ware Jogger female to finish. She was also first in the Female Vet 70 category, in a gun time of 39.35. She was followed by Michelle Cross as the second Ware Jogger female, and the 14th woman overall to cross the finish line in a time of 40.44. She was second in the Female Vet 55 age group.

WARE JOGGERS PLACE IN TOP 10 AT HATFIELD 5M

Ware Joggers recorded an eighth place finish at the Hatfield 5m as club members turned out in force to race.

 

Vincent Riviere crossed the finish line in eighth place, and the seventh male finisher, in an impressive chip time of 27.30. He was placed second in the M45 age group. Vincent was followed closely by Kevin Francis, who came in 12th place overall in a time of 27.45. The third member back, and finishing in 20th place overall, was Paskell Blackwell, in a time of 28.33. Ware Joggers founder, Terry Nichols, won the M80 age category, in a time of 57.05.

 

There was also an impressive performance from Ware Joggers women; Marianne Mitchell was the first female Ware Jogger back, in a time of 35.16, and second place in the F50 age group. She was closely followed by Anthea Francis in 36.45. Cate Campany was next Ware Jogger back, and representing the F60 category, in a time of 37.38 and second in the F60 group. Pamela Wilson topped the F70 age group in a time of 39 minutes. Isla Threlfall recorded an impressive second place in the U20s category in a time of 44.12, also lowering the Ware Joggers junior record that has stood since 1988.

 

It was a successful day of medals too, with County Championship medals awarded to a number of club runners, across age categories. These included:

  • Terry Nichols winning gold in the M80 category.
  • Pamela Wilson taking gold in the F65 category.
  • Vincent Riviere winning bronze in the M40 category.
  • Colin Naman securing bronze in the M75 category.
  • Men’s Vets Team Silver was won by a Ware Joggers team comprising Vincent Riviere, Kevin Francis, Paskell Blackwell, and Matt Brown.

A number of Ware Joggers club records were broken at the race: Cate Campany, in moving up to the FV60 category, lowered the record to 37.88, while Pamela Wilson in the FV70 category took the record down to 39 minutes. Meanwhile, Marianne Mitchell lowered the FV50 record to 35.16.

Mid Week League Race 4 -Trent Park

"Well done to the 36 Ware Joggers who completed the final scoring race in Division 2 of the MWL last night at Trent Park.  We have had a very good season again with great support at each fixture.  We finished 3rd overall in the league with the men winning their division.  In the Vets competition we won the league.  Highlights of the night for me were Lucy Dupuis sprint finish and seeing Nick Cheal turn out for his first race." - Kev Francis - Men's Team Captain.


The last fixture of this year's Mid Week League is the Mob Match at Welwyn Garden City on Wednesday 10th July.

Midweek Road Racing League Mob Match Race 5

Wednesday 10th July 2024

This is the last race in the MWL, it's fine to run even if you haven't in any of the other fixtures. Please get in touch if you would like a bib? Everybody is welcome. Parking for us is at the race HQ Ridgeway Academy AL7 2AF off of Herns Lane.
Start Time: 7.30pm, League Presentation 8.50pm

Details from GCR

Time Limit: Maximum time limit 90 minutes. The first 5km must be comfortably completed by

8.10pm which is 40 minutes after the gun. Any later and there could be a problem of non-access through Shire Park.

Location: Attimore Hall in the Ridgeway Academy, Herns Lane, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 2AF
There are changing facilities and plenty of toilets some of which are located in and
outside the nearby Sports Centre plus others within the Hall. So PLEASE DO NOT URINATE IN THE BUSHES of which we have had complaints in the past. NO DOGS allowed on site or
the field, we are using a school. The pedestrian gate used in the past in the passage at the
rear of the field by Ridgeway Academy is welded shut. Baggage can be left in the Hall and
there are lockers in the Sports Centre.

Parking: Please know your allocated car park, incorporating a change from previous years:
The main Car Park is at Panshanger Golf Club/The View AL7 2ED for Division 1 & 2 clubs
only. We must leave space for the regulars and so only park where our marshals show
you.
PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS. This car park will fill up especially in light of extra
spaces required for the Euros. Therefore later arrivals go straight to the allotted side

Midweek League 2024, Race 3

Team Summary

The Ware Joggers delivered an outstanding team performance at the Midweek League 2024, Race 3, hosted by Royston Runners and held at the picturesque Hyde Hall Farm near Buntingford. The women's team was led by Katy Woodward, who had an excellent finish, with notable contributions from Katrina Dobson, Anthea Francis, Lucy Dupuis, and Beverley McLees. Meanwhile, the men's team was spearheaded by Michael Waddington’s first-place finish, with significant support from Liam Struwe, David Craddock, Kevin Sambridge, and Ian Perrins.

Upcoming Race

The next race in the Midweek League, scheduled for June 27 and hosted by Barnet and District AC, is likely to be run at Trent Park. The race, starting at 7:45pm, is a perfect opportunity for new runners to join our team. Following tradition, the host club will provide refreshments after the race, making these events competitive and social, similar to cross-country meets. There is no entry fee for the races, and new runners are more than welcome to join, even if they haven't participated in earlier races.

Congratulations to all runners for their remarkable performances and team spirit. The Ware Joggers continue to show their strength and dedication in the Midweek League series. We look forward to more exceptional performances in the upcoming races. Keep up the great work!

Championship Race 11 Hatfield Broad Oak 10K

The HBO 10k is one of the most popular road races in the South East, attracting brand new runners through to highly experienced club members.

The atmosphere for the race is second to none, with hundreds of spectators lining the High Street to cheer you on and provide water.

 

Come for the 10K and stay for the 1mile Fun Run! 
The Fun Run is great for families with a medal for every finisher. This year we have special Fancy Dress prizes to hand out so plan your outfits! Register at the school or on the day! £4 per child, Adults run for free.

 

Race Day coincides with the annual Village Festival, with activities, stalls, Food & Drink and fun for everyone.

Free Parking is managed expertly by our local groups within short walking distance of the race start and village centre.

This is race 10 of 12 of our season and you must have renewed your club membership prior to the race if you wish your result to be included in the Championship Leagues etc.
