Built on Nearly 40 Years of Running Together

Ware Joggers was founded in 1987 by Terry Nichols, together with his wife Hazel, with a simple ambition: to create a friendly running club where everyone felt welcome, regardless of ability.

From the very beginning, the club was about more than running. Terry wanted people to improve, make friends, support one another and enjoy themselves. Nearly four decades later, those same values still define who we are.

Today our members range from 17 to over 90 years old. Some are taking their first steps into organised running, while others compete at county level. Most fall somewhere in between.

As we approach our 40th anniversary, we're proud of our heritage, but we're equally excited about the future of the club and the next generation of runners who will become part of our story.

A Welcoming Club with Standards

We are open to all abilities. Beginners are supported. Improvers are challenged. Experienced runners are pushed.

No one is left standing on their own at a session. Equally, no one is held back from progressing.

Our sessions are structured and led by qualified coaches, with multiple pace groups so that everyone trains at the right level. Whether you are building towards your first 5K or aiming for a new 10K or marathon personal best, you will train alongside others working towards similar goals.

We care about improvement, but we care just as much about people enjoying the process.

Community That Goes Beyond the Run

Many of our members joined knowing nobody. They stayed because they felt welcomed.

We train together during the week, race together at weekends, and support each other through setbacks as well as successes. Some members compete regularly. Others run primarily for fitness, health and routine. Many do both.

Being part of Ware Joggers means being part of a club that values commitment, consistency and encouragement. We take what we do seriously, but we do not take ourselves too seriously.

Competitive When It Counts

Ware Joggers is affiliated to England Athletics and competes in local cross country leagues, road race series and championship events throughout the year.

We have a strong presence across age groups and abilities. From team league performances to individual age category successes, our results reflect the depth of the club.

Structured training, qualified coaching and regular racing opportunities allow members to progress safely and confidently.

If you want to improve, there is a clear pathway here.

Rooted in Ware Since 1987

Ware Joggers has been part of the local community for nearly four decades. From our first gathering in 1987 to today's thriving club, we've helped thousands of runners discover the enjoyment of running.

We're a volunteer-run club with strong local roots. Our committee, coaches and run leaders are passionate about creating the same welcoming environment that Terry and Hazel set out to build all those years ago.

We support and help organise major local events, including the Ware Festival of Running, and continue to invest in coaching, training and opportunities for runners of every ability.

Our history gives us experience. Our volunteers give us energy. Together, they help ensure Ware Joggers remains a club that people are proud to join.
